Stroke Awareness Picnic 2013
Living Well After Stroke

Thank you to everyone who volunteered and attended the fourth annual Stroke Awareness Picnic on May 11, 2013, at UC Irvine. The picnic provided the opportunity for those affected by stroke, including survivors, caregivers, and loved ones, to meet each other and to obtain information regarding stroke-related resources. A number of stroke survivors and their caregivers gave inspiring speeches describing how stroke has impacted their lives, and giving insight into their road to medical and personal recovery.

The presence of representatives from diverse stroke-related resources was a key aspect of the picnic. Participating exhibitors included local support groups to national associations, transportation services, and rehabilitation centers. Volunteers who assisted with the picnic included OCSRN members, students, and staff members from Dr. Steve Cramer’s laboratory at UC Irvine, from Chapman University’s Doctor of Physical Therapy and Master’s in Communication Disorders (Speech Therapy) program, from Concordia’s Nursing School and staff from HOAG Hospital.
